The backtrack distro is a fun one to learn. And i would add not to worry about installing it to your HDD. The live CD works great to start learning. Follow DNR and BB suggestions with the live CD and you'll be at a good starting point :D

I've used the same tables with BT3 to crack passwords. Great link to start with :)
