Re: network issues (windows 10)

I would also turn off the firewall while troubleshooting to remove it as a possible cause. Good suggestion BUT I never use internal Firewall on my personal Network :D ... I didn't expect that you would, only that Windows 10 has this annoying habit of turning its firewall on during some security upd...

Re: Writing a book

With the way that Amazon supports self publishing today I don't see a huge benefit for going with a traditional publisher. For starters its retentively low risk and low cost. Amazon sells more books than God, it's fast, they handle stock, you control pricing and get 70% of that pricing and they help...

Re: Browser comparison

Ever on the otherside :D
I use firefox and am not unhappy about the rebuild, despite the plugins all going obsolete (bonus I really like Rust). (I feel like they will never rebuild fireFTP... although to be honest I stopped checking months ago lol)

Re: Podcasting or Video Sreaming?

On the other side of the coin, I listen to podcast on my way to and from work, the content varies but I have around 8 channels that I work with regularly and a handful of others that have an interesting episode now and again. I use the Stitcher app on my phone to browse the shows and save the ones I...

Re: How do you use the codes?

I was also assuming Windows, for Linux I think it's worth the effort to learn Vim or use Kate (for us KDE snobs) As for languages everyone has an opinion, but I think PHP and Python are really good places to start for sure. I started with Python but found that PHP was incredibly useful for web bots ...

Re: How do you use the codes?

I would not have guessed Lisp actually, or Perl these days, would make the list of most popular languages. Just wanted to toss in that if you are using notepad, you may want to take a look at notepad++ it's quite a bit more robust with features like syntax highlighting, tab view, PCRE and other usef...

Re: Humble Beginnings

My dad also brought home a PC in the 1990's, it was a Tandy Color Computer and came natively with the ability to program in Q-Basic. I have been "mucking around" with computers ever since. I run Linux now after dumping Windows completely, I waited until my Windows 7 PC died though so not q...

[quote="bad_brain"] it isn't a real desktop environment because it does not come with its own bundle of software like Gnome or KDE.....so it's more like a very bloated wallpaper.[/quote This made me laugh :D Unity was supposed to be an solution to the Gnome/KDE division... I always t...

Re: Ubuntu 17.10 Gnome 3

Working toward some Red Hat certifications I have been working with Centos 7 lately. I had some issues with it at first, but I have really come around. In all fairness, I never liked Unity so it's nice to see it taking second stage to Gnome, which I also don't care for exactly; but at least it has h...
