Reddit is about to go the way of Digg
I really haven't been paying attention to Reddit news other than to say that Reddit is probably about to have an IPO rug pull moment. Yesterday logging into Reddit Is Fun on my phone I got a notification that changes to the Reddit API ( they're going to be charging exorbitant prices for access to th...

Re: pfSense Build 2.0
I give up. I've had hell with the Asrock J4125B-ITX board. It would boot and sometimes on reboot it would hang or go into a boot loop. To make it worse there have been no BIOS updates since the initial on Asrock's site. I think instead I'm going to support the opnsense project and buy an Opnsense ap...

Re: pfSense Build 2.0
Problems, Problems and More Problems This project has become a huge pain in the ass. So I got new RAM and installed it. I installed pfSense, however I kept running into issues. Booting and rebooting would hang. I think it has something to do with UEFI BIOS. I still can't nail down a reason. Then I ...

Re: pfSense Build 2.0
Issues with this build This build has been a test in patience. So I last left off with the PSU not fitting. I got the new Flex PSU (250 Watt) and it fits in the case perfectly. So I plugged in the RAM, NIC, connected to HDMI and...mothing. Borrowed a VGA cable from a friend and still nothing. I end...

Repository of Server Information
Hello all, I figured since I've gotten quite a list of sites I've used for my projects (pfSense, home network, and future planned VM/NAS server). Serve The Home - Contrary to what you might think the name means, it actually means the /home directory of a linux server. This website is primarily about...

Re: Project: Network Rebuild
I would have updated sooner, but this past weekend I was struck with such bad sinusitis I threw up 3 times just trying to cough up phlegm. None of the home remedy shit worked for me so I decided to go to the doctor. Now I'm feeling much better. Anyway, have I changed. Well to start with I ended up p...

Re: Project: Network Rebuild
Ok I've a bit of an update. Last year my wife and I moved houses. I ended up setting everything back up and I'll make a post and post some pictures about that. Suffice to say we moved to a much nicer neighborhood. A gated neighborhood with tennis courts and a swimming pool. If I were to move anywher...

Re: What did you do this week?
I'm trying to re-learn C# and start learning Xamarin. Goal is a weight lifting app. I've used a some but none of them are as flexible as I like (Strong, Personal Training Coach). Don't know how far I'll get. May be one of those projects that gets started and quickly falls off. Hoping my boss approve...

Re: Project: Network Rebuild
Part 3 - Wiring and Initial Setup So me and a friend I met back in Junior College and now work with at the Bank wired in the Ubiquiti UniFi NanoHD APs. That was on Saturday. I crawled around in the attic. My knees and abs still hurt. Since the roof is low pitched I had to basically lay across 4 bea...

Re: Project: Network Rebuild
Huzzah Phase 2 is finally really complete! The last thing I had to do was clean up the burrs left by my drilling. I realize I should have drilled into boards instead of using two two by fours and using them as makeshift sawhorses. Well lesson learned. I used a 1/2" chamfer bit to try and counte...

Re: Project: Network Rebuild
I have fixed my temperature problem. Cant believe I didn't think of it. Drilled a bunch of holes above the CPU cooler and taped off the back above the IO shield, holes around the NIC card and front port where the extra HDD bay in an attempt to get slight negative pressure so most air comes through a...

Re: Project: Network Rebuild
I have come full circle and I am still pissed off. I ended up doing what I should have done in the first place and just replaced the CPU fan. I got a Silverstone NT07-115X. This one works, but I've run into another problem. i'm not sure if it's a bad combination of CPU and Case (likely), but when th...

Re: Project: Network Rebuild
I have run into yet another problem. I didn't do due diligence with regard to CPU cooler. The Thermaltake Engine 17 is rated for a 35W TDP CPU ](*,) . My CPU in the build (Xeon E3-1260L) is a 45W CPU. It could keep it about 70C but the TCASE for the E3-1260L is 58.6°C. So, after doing a little more ...

Re: Project: Network Rebuild
Good news and bad news. Good news: The old CPU fan was the problem and replaced with the new expensive Thermaltake spinning heatsink. The Bracket for the Intel card fits perfectly. Bad News: Spot the problem. http://imagehost.suck-o.com/images/2019/09/21/201909201853221.th.jpg I should have bought a...
