I use Hijackthis sometimes, but I have gotten Register Mechanic for fixing my registery, you have to buy Register Mechanic, but you can easily "activate" it... 
but for Freeware, Hijackthis is a great peice of software to scan your registery for any issues any malware or just common mistakes could have damaged. Although, you have to understand what registery is what, and if you accidentally delete an important or needed registery, then your in trouble, but they have a backup feature... 
it also logs in a bunch of nasty looking registerys for you to look into detailed later on. 
Like I said, nice piece of Freeware software, if you dont have the money for Registery Mechanic, then just download that from the link above, thanks neo130 the link. I would just go on download.com and download it from there, so I never saw the actual site.
