yahoo messenger - watch out when uninstalling
had a pretty annoying experience with the yahoo messenger yesterday....when you install it it adds a lot of useless crap like browser plugins and rightclick extensions, so I decided to uninstall all the useless stuff and only keep the actual messenger.
but when I uninstalled the "yahoo services" the procedure froze so I had to end it manually after waiting for a while....and now all "uninstall" buttons are gone in the software menu... if I install new apps the buttons are there, but not for the old apps...and I found no way to fix it yet, the registry entries and the settings in gpedit.msc are fine...

to sue yahoo is like yelling at a wall....even if the would lose the lawsuit they would simply go to the next instance until I am bankrupt.
I will simply use an alternative client next time because I hate yahoo anyway...about 2 years ago I found a childporn yahoo usergroup, I notified yahoo with all data (link to the group, etc.) and what they replied? "such a group don't exist in the yahoo usergroups"....man, I even had the link and they were calling me a liar. yahoo is a prime example of a faceless corporation greedy for power and money, they give a shit about people...

teh...it got even funnier: afterwards some other programs were not working anymore. O&O Defrag and CS2, both were "cheap" versions and CS2 told me the license isn't valid anymore...this is very strange because I blocked all access to the internet for it. I have the strange feeling the Yahoo messenger is sending more than just the instant message I write...I think it's time for some packet capturing..

removing third party appz
It seems when ever you visit some sites including yahoo, msn, and google, they want you to download a helpful app. That app is actually marketing software to track and report your habits back. More so, I find the helpful browser add-on is biased toward that network's advertisement and database. I always recommended that people use various search engines, not just one, to increase the chance of finding that one file you are looking for. Copernic is also pretty good, seemingly uneffected by paying advertisement.
Before I bore the fuck out of you all, here are some answers.
B_B, use CCleaner if you have to to completely remove yahoo. Better yet, reformat and load all your OS and appz in a clean install.
<windoze users, IE 7.0 goto TOOLS/Internet Options/Programs tab and select the box that says Manage Add-ons>
Take a snapshot of your harddrive, it might be included in some higher forms of OS/NOS.
Install Yahoo, then compare to the snapshot of your clean install.
Do let us know what you find

well, I use RegCleaner to get rid of all the remaining registry entries, and I wouldn't be even mad if the yahoo messenger would simply leave the usual spy-me entries like most of all other non-open source apps do too.....but Yahoo obviously makes registry entries that have nothing to do with the actual messenger application, else a deinstall wouldn't have affected other applications like Defrag and Photoshop.
I think I'll setup Windows on my old lappy and capture the packets sent by the messenger on the first start of the app or (even better) already while installing it. this would be also an opportunity to make registry snapshots and compare the pre-/post-install entries...
