Firefox Ad Blocker

Post by ayu »

Now this is something i have had problems with A LOT...and it has a small story behind it.

Now, my computer is getting old, it has a few years on it's neck now and is starting to fall behind. But i haven't had any large problems with it before, until now.

It started a few weeks ago, when the computer crashed and i lost a lot of work because of it. Then a few minutes after that, it crashed again..and again..and again. And it has done this now for a few weeks.

And today, i made a test, because i was getting suspicious about something.

I went to a normal site, and then i checked the CPU usage, nothing wrong there. But then i went to the site where i read all my news....and it has a lot of ads on it.

The normal CPU usage was about 2%.....when i visited the news site it went up to 67% and stayed there while going between 67 and 90% of usage.

This pissed me of badly, so i found a pretty neat tool for it.

it's a firefox ad blocker add on.

Download it below

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10

The cpu usage is now down to 1-2% when browsing it :)

I use ad block plus. works like a charm, if you want a site to be allowed its just 2 clicks away :).

just my 2 cents :).

the K-Meleon browser has real nice options to block specific content, from Flash and Java applets over images to colors in documents (!)...can all be blocked. and it has a load of useful privacy options too!
get it, and enjoy how fast it is compared to FF:

I think FF does a better job at blocking adds than IE. I have not had any problems with adds since I have started using FF!
We will either find a way, or make one.
