direct webcam?

i thought of this while i was laying down last night, wrapped up in my mynx cover...
on IMs you can get a IP by sending a file and doing a netstat, would this work with webcam since you're connected directly to their client on the port?

yer i think it does work actually, because i had read somewhere, that if you want to hijack the victim's ip you need an direct connection such as opening game apps, video conversations(webcam) and file transfer

sweet, i didnt know if it was filtered through the msn server or if it was just a raw connection, if so, this brings in future possibilities.

msn is not a straight connex.
The webcam is a direct connect, you usually need to DL a java applet to run the camera. check out the threads:

I remember we used to have loads of fun dropping URLs to webcams when one of us found something cool or interesting like a store or college campus...

that will come in handy DNR but what im specifically talking about is if you were to cam with someone from your msn list, watching their cam and/or letting them view yours, would netstat show their IP?

I neither use MSN nor I have a webcam, I recommend to simply do a test together with a buddy of yours. the regulat chat on MSN in NOT done in a direct connection, possible a new direct one is established for the webcam data transfer....but I kinda doubt it...

actually there is another way to check it, you could capture the packets with Wireshark when sending a webcam invitation, if a new and direct connection have to be established you should be able to find the indication in the packets, no real connection should have to be established for this, so you can do it with someone being afk...

yea, I am betting a 4" rolled blunt that MSN directs all network activity through their servers, applying a blackbox PUID instead of IPs.

Me thinks MSN like AOL, and others, want to control every aspect of their network, hence this setup. This allows them to monitor, record, and even track the marketing aspects.

This used to be possible with both MSN and Yahoo when the hand shake is made either by sending a file or by being connected to their cam but not so sure any more as i not tested this for a long time.

Lear to use ethereal or wireshark as its now called as DNR said but theres also a few more you could try for starting with something like ip reveal i think its called. There is a few sniffers in the download section why not give them a try
