hm, I am an ATI fan (having the MSI HD 4850 heatpipe edition), so I recommend a HD 4670 one:
link here.
but well, if you can spend 20 bucks more you can even get a Sapphire HD 4850 already with a much better performance (800 stream processors instead of 320 on the 4670):

You have a multitude of cards to pick from at that price range. Unless you need a kick ass card then you got to bump the cash flow up considerably.hoothoot wrote:Its a PCI-Express slot
Also thanks for the reply
Go for the 9600 GT
Scroll towards middle of the page and see.

Once you have your card and want to go and buy a game there is a neat little site which lets you test you have the correct system requirements for the game you want to purchase called 'Can You Run It?'

I see floody joined the dark side, but ok...you can still trust him..

I actually do prefer Nvidia. I have had a few ATIs and they were not so bad. Its strange how we people, make our decisions and tend to stick to them. I just lean more towards Nvidia for some reason.

I had an nvidia card on my old system (7900GS AGP), but sadly exactly that model was (later) known to be buggy, I had loads of artefacts and texture errors when playing Fallout3 with it...so it kinda ruined my nvidia experience. but there are surely ATI cards that are also not really reliable.
but ok, I have to admit the ATI card I am using now got 50% of its awesomeness through me by customizing the g-card BIOS..^^
in default state the fan was running on 60% of max speed even on a cold card, which is a very odd on a card with a giant heatpipe cooler. I reduced it to 37% to make it silent and the GPU temperature still never raises over 52 degrees Celsius.

I used to tend to go for Nvidia cards but when i went to buy my last card and after doing some research changed sides. I bought a Asus EAX 1650XT Crossfire card around 2 years ago and it has been quite a good choice. It is actually a little louder than normal but for the price and quality, i would say i made a good choice.
Here is a write up on the card im using at the moment.

thuggy, if it's too loud and the temperature is not at the limit already you can customize the BIOS of the g-card, that's what I did with my HD4850.
here you can find a howto:
http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/ove ... idcard/154
of course you should use GPU-Z to keep an eye on the temperatures:

for me it was really worth it, when I first used my new g-card I was really disappointed because it was damn loud...now it's totally silent..
