Cannot copy any file to any external media. Pls help

Post by z3r0aCc3Ss »

I am getting this problem from past 2-3 days. I want to format my PC. But before that, I want to back-up all my data. But the problem is, as soon as I try to copy any file to any external media, I get this error message:-

Code: Select all

The disk is write protected.
Remove the write-protection or use another disk
I usually my 120 GB iPod for my backup but now, I can't use it. Neither my USB. I tried 2 transfer files to my mobile, it worked, but I can;t backup my 70 GB data on mobile. :P

Any suggestion or tip for that? How to troubleshoot this problem?

The obvious first, does your Ipod have a hold switch, if so turn it to the off position.

Is your Ipod plugged directly into your computer, or is it daisy chained through a hub? Sometimes the daisy chain will give you a write error.

Is your Ipod in 'disk mode'?

Is it formatted for Windows or Mac?
If in WinXP try:
1. Disconnect the iPod.
2. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
3. Click the Hardware tab.
4. Click the Device Manager button.
5. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
6. Right-click Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller choose Disable.

If in Vista try:
1. Start > Run > type ‘regedit’ then hit 'OK'.
2. Browse to the following key:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlS et\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
3. Double click on the string ‘WriteProtect’ and change the ‘Value Data’ box to ‘0’
4. You may also need to do this for the strings in any folders called ‘ControlSet***’ e.g.

Example: My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\C ontrol\StorageDevicePolicies

Reboot, and write protection is removed.

If none of this applies, I'm out of ideas.
