Suggestion Numero Deux.

Post by Big-E »

Well, as the name says (in french) I have but another suggestion.

Capture the flag, suck-o style.

We divide up into multiple teams (selected at random) and we create a tournament layout (also assigned at random) and play capture the flag.
The servers will be set up the same, and will be set up with specific tools and it will be against the rules to download anything else. (That all can be decided later)

Anyway, every other week we will host matches on two servers (I for one will donate a server and my connection) and battle it out.

The winner gets bragging rights.

What is in it for us?

Well, we will have a legit way of practicing our skills, and maybe in return after a game is completed we can discuss how we owned each others boxes.

Thoughts?

Yes, and no.

It's not the typical controlled wargame, like you see around the internet at various sites where there are levels etc.

We basically set up two servers, based on a pre-determined image, I guess - and then put a file in each server (other team wont know what is contained within, maybe even add an MD5 signature on each file to ensure integrity is intact) and you hack away at each other until there is a winner. (which would be when someone hacks the other teams box, and you retrieve the file - with the md5 signature and all) .

I don't think either of you quite understand.

Maybe this will help: http://www.cs.ucsb.edu/~vigna/CTF/

Basically, something like that - except on our own servers.

This is not a wargame, like you two are thinking of. These servers are only set up for the games, when the games are going on. Otherwise people cannot attack them, etc.
