SUCK-O : THE NAME, THE WEBSITE

Post by Still_Learning »

BB,

Please tell me how you thought of this website name? Sometimes I am scared to login when i have hot girls and good friends over my house while im logged in here. (I know the true content is good) but people that see it for the first time just see hte purple colors and the name "SUCK-O" (esp. if they dont know anything about computers) and it is kind of weird explaining it, is that because im from another country with diffrent cultures?

If you will.. Please explain what "SUCK-O" means in Germany. I know a ciggerette in england is called a fag. In America you will get a way diffrent response asking for a fag then in england lol is there any way to choose the sites colors in my profile menu or something? lol ( i would like to switch up the purple with like a cool blac or silver or something)
Im not trying to offend you or the site, but I was wondering how you came up with the name of it?

If I remember correctly, Bad_Brain told me it had something to do with Beevis and Butthead. That was before my time (I never had cable TV; Didn't get satelite TV until ~2001-'02).

B_B should fill you in on the details.

"suck-o" don't really have a meaning, I got the name from a Beavis&Butthead episode (there appears a sock puppet used by the principle named socko, butthead calls it sucko) AND from a "Rocko's modern life" episode (suck-o-matic 2000, the episode rocks: "somebody has to stop that senseless sucking!" :lol: ).
when I did my studies I wanted an own domain&webspace to host the stuff I had to do as homework, because the limited bandwidth on geocities was annoying. so I sat together with a classmate, he picked his domain name first and had a real hard time to find a free one (he got machnix.de in the end)....and when it was my turn it hit me like a lightning: suck-o.com! :lol:

this is not a porno site!

Post by DNR »

lol, it does make it harder to give out the site to people you meet - I mean it is very easy to remember, but everyone seems to break out in a shit-eating grin when I hand them a peice of paper with the url.
I'd have to say "TRUST ME, its not a porn site!"
Having the link banned at work under "Computer Crime" though makes it neat though..

Yea the name is a bit off for some people. I also get a weird look when I give the sites url to a friend or co-worker. As far as the colors, we were thinking about a having a few themes that one could choose from. This did not get implemented possibly because we at suck-o are always taking on several jobs and only completing a few at one time. "I am famous for this!" :-#

Yeah i cant open the site in my college lab, there have been several occasions when i wanted to tell my colleagues about it, but i couldnt, i even wanted to tell my teacher about it, but i cant, imagine the look on his face when i say, check out this cool site, suck-o.com,
its sad that i hesitate to tell others about it, even with a very good community and good content, just because of its name.

So how does it get banned at work? I cant get suck-o at work because "Hacking is filtered". Does the filter actually go through the posts and check for the word "hacking" or does it check the title or the header/description of the website or smth like that?

I wish we could do something about it. But probably can not I assume.

Well it could simply happen when the filter looks at the source code. Try this right click on suck-o and view page source code. Look at the beginning of the code for meta name = suck-o, hacking etc...

This is one way I am sure the filter gets information.

updates for the web filters

Post by DNR »

At work its 'Websense', and some filters get updated by the software maker - just like an antivirus proggie. I guess all they'd have to do is list all the sites on the hacking toplist, starting with #1, and who is #1??! :lol:

Yeah , at my last job the method they used was to searc hthe source code of the page before it loads for keywords in the metatag, so if it finds keywords like "porn, hacker, hacking, xxx, warez, gambling,, ect.." it will give you the blocked page message, and may report or log to your manager that you tried to goto a site like that on the company computer.

I was fortunate to have a very cool manager though.

and LOL at what DNR said, yeah i know what your saying , it does sound like a porn site name almost

BB, I am also a beavis and butthead fan, but i havent seen it on TV since it was on MTV many years ago.

um, I can't really help with that because I am pretty colorblind, but here are the color values:

Code: Select all

$bgcolor1 = "#c5b8fe";
$bgcolor2 = "#9cbee6";
$bgcolor3 = "#d3e2ea";
$bgcolor4 = "#000099";
maybe someone can find out what name the color has...I checked a list of color codes and the names of the colors, but found none of the above in there... :lol:
