yeah, I have been modding joomla over the last couple of days, making it include a community mod, that allows profile's, user groups, uploading pictures, videos etc. so just asking, as if we where to take joomla I could incorporate it. but we are not going to

I don't get it, you want to start a thread, a new board, or dedicate a new page on suck-o for this? =/
Personally I don't like the idea about creating pages dedicated to other communities, especially not a community like MySpace ; /
Imo, a thread would do ...

I get what you are saying, a myspace or facebook page as an extension of suck-o.com - sort of plant a flag on those sites to link back to suck-o.com.
I had to try facebook because family is using that as a system to communicate with each other. They think because I don't use facebook I am dead or clueless about the internet. After awhile of the stupid one-liners "I am doing laundry now" or the tenth app that wanted to install on my page (as if it doesn't take all day to load with all the running apps on the page already) for "what color do you dream in" or "does your shit stink?" The website presents a fucked up sugar coated view of the world, a simplified version of AOL..
I think it was suggested a while back, and in typical hacker antisocialism - many said "We rather not have any user that only knows facebook - we rather have the ones that searched and searched all the little hacker forums - and found suck-o.com"
Don't be discouraged Mystic, just be glad you belong on suck-o.com

Valid points, but I would have to say that for hackers, the use of a private page that explains who you are (just like our Staff Member block (which is currently not working)) you can use it to update people on what you are working on, what you have accomplished etc.DNR wrote:...

I dont see a public profile just to chat aimlessly like myspace whores, I see it more as a status window to show where my expertise lay. for instance, for the people who do know my real name, I can be found on LinkedIn which purely displayes your resumé your previous employers and even referals from previous bosses.
it is also a way to look for new projects/jobs to work on, so I think the anti-social aspect of a hacker is a little bit to exagurated. =][/url]

nothing wrong with hanging out a "work wanted" sign -
but to post in a lame forum like myspace or facebook just invites too many newbie "how do you hax hotmail" or " can you hack my g/f facebook?".
Its sort of like having an advertisement for Cisco Mainframes in a comic book about hacking..

Not that you should care
Not that any of you should care, but I have both a Myspace and a Facebook account, I do it to keep track of those family and friends who have social disabilities prohibiting them from communicating any other way. I agree that they are an annoyance at times, and for the most part I'll go weeks or months between checking them for a lot of reasons, more often then not it's time restraint. I never special coded Myspace, largely because I don't care enough to do it, and I rarely take a quiz on Facebook to find out what Goddess I am or what the perfect job for me is.
I like Suck-o, it's a good place to hang out for the most part. There is a huge amount of knowledge to be gleaned here and I feel that the strength of the community is a rare find. Everyone here has something to offer, and I think it forefills the free information exchange that is so hard to find these days.
In short, Myspace and Facebook have a purpose, but I'm not so sure the purpose aligns with the Suck-o spirit. If its code sharing that is the point, then it seems to me the Coding section is a good place to share it, and if it's links from the outside to the in... well if you look at the activity on the forums I think you'll find that there is a stable community here, diluting it with Myspace and Facebook addicts seems almost counter-productive.
Incidentally, Lilrofl is posting on a forum, He dreams in his sleep and his shit smells like roses XD
Bringing me to my last point... what's up with all the third person talk these days?
