GIMP/small image

Post by LaBlueGirl »

I was asked by a friend to 'largify' an extremely small part of a pic, in order to make it as clear as possible.

Well, I can't :(

The part of the pic they want to be able to see clearly is smaller than my pinkie-nail...

I've already used smart sharpening and cleaned it up.
Still can't see the part of the image definitively, though.

The pic was taken from too far away and the image-piece in question looks like the tree it is sitting on :)

Any tips/advice?

Thx
LBG

hm, what file format and resolution is the image?
if the pic is taken with a digital camera it might be worth a try to retrieve the .raw image from the memory card, because every camera is kinda trying to "improve" the pictures which can cause a loss of details.

Format's a .PNG, resolution, no clue.

Here's the original...

The bird is...in the middle :)

I'll pass the info on, thx.

uh-oh....sorry, but no chance, the detail data is lost in this pic and you can't restore it. if it would be a bigger pic it might be possible to restore some details, but the bird simply consists of a couple of pixels... :?

but well, I'm not a graphics expert, maybe I'm wrong....

Ok, you just confirmed what I've thought, thx.

I *really* wanted to help, but all that could come to mind was Hollywood-type-CGI...

Thanks, b_b

you mean CSI, right? because that's what I thought too.....
in every 2nd episode they take a totally crappy pic, click twice on the mouse and voila: the pic is looking like it's been taken with a 10megapixel camera....
well, it is kinda possible, but only when you have enough source data....when you have 100 pixels you can calculate the average color flow of the pixels next to each other and (maybe) make the pic a little more detailed by adding extra pixels....but this is not working when not enough source material is available.

oh boy you're talking about photoshop cs2 heal and patch tool(if i m not wrong) or yeah if you can create a program to analyze the change in pattern of the pixels and just enrich it, like take two pixels and put equivalent 100 pixels, varying till (plus-minus)1 bit according to neighbouring pixels(like the value of neighbouring pixel is lower or higher.. lol i hope you get what i m talking... anyway this will be a million dollar project but that way you can make this picture into a 10mp pic.. :P

Yeah lol.

b_b:

Never watched CSI.
Ok, I lie, saw maybe 2 episodes and didn't like it.

My mom ruined hospital shows, and my job ruined law shows...

But *exactly*!!

I know from watching all these 'The Making Of's' on DVDs all the effort that goes into it...

p_o:

Well, you just gave a tip, to anyone who wants to do a million-dollar project lol.

Nah, I'll pass this along too, thx.
If I had the desire (to mess with photos to that extent, I mean), I'd look into what you said :)

I thought they were pan-dimensional...
