stuck in a photshop tut, need help

this is a link to a tutorial that I'm doing now... I actually got it from one of the old posts on this forum.

now, im stuck here

Each layer of those 5 lines should be copied several times, changing by turn the Fill parameter. One copy should have Fill - 100%, the next one – 50% and so on, creating the volume effect. Place the copies’ layers on the file the way from below:

you see I'm able to do the lines, and stroke the paths, but its not working to make the volume effect, as you can see in the images that follow the statement that i quoted... this is what im not able to do... can any one help me in this

just copy the layer with the lines, move it around a bit and change the fill of them, whats so gard to understand?
