This is incredible

I can't wait to see a game made using this method. I mean imagine, every grain of dirt is actually rendered as an object instead of a texture... O_O
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

I actually read about that too ... and from what I read, it's not realistic to use it in a game

I'd say it's very realistic as long as you optimize things a bit.

First of all you'd only render the surfaces of objects, not the insides that can't be seen anyway, and only render visible surfaces.

Second, there's no bloody point in rendering every single grain of dirt most of the time, you wouldn't see them anyway, since they're too far away. Render fewer larger grains depending on the distance from the camera

Third, you could use the technique to just render the "unlimited detail" into regular textures once and use it as a regular texture many times (until you move closer to it and it needs to rendered in more detail, for instance)

Now, I haven't looked into this at all, I'm just stating some general things about the concept. The only advantage I see in this technique is that you can zoom in and still have nice textures :D

Very cool, but i agree with cats it seems unrealistic, the games industry would be all over him and already bought him up if his tech was legit.

It does seem pretty far fetched, honestly. But unless the guy pre-rendered everything in the video, then isn't the video a pretty good proof of concept?

Also, he said in the video that the technology was incomplete, so maybe he's not willing to sell it to any game industries until they feel they can release it.

Either way, i'm not holding my breath for it, but it'll be interesting to see what becomes of it.
