shamir, isapiens, bubzuru, mrmike: accounts created, check your PMs....
and here the link again to the client download:
http://www.jinchess.com/download

use the default settings to connect to the free internet chess server...

to start a match:
- connect both to the server
- both have to type match nick_of_the_opponent, or just the first one and the 2nd one has to type accept, works both.
that's it!

as default blitz chess is started, if you want to set a higher time limit here's the syntax: match nick_of_the_opponent minutes increment
the increment is the time that is added when a move is done, let's say you want to start a game where each player has 100 minutes time, no increment:
match nick_of_the_opponent 100 0, only the first one have to type this, the 2nd one only have to accept..... [/code]

well its very simple. When you play the blitz games (2-3 min ones) they use exactly the same amount of time per move to think. You can just see that its not a human playing with you. I just quit right away. But otherwise i had good game experiences with other people.

I have had some good experiences playing chess on yahoo games. It is my fave game on yahoo games.
We will either find a way, or make one.

well, I think you're not safe from cheaters in any online game.... :? the FICS is THE classic with the biggest amount of players, so you might also run into a real chess weirdo who is doing nothing else but playing chess the whole day...even grandmasters play there sometimes.
but well, the intention why I picked it was to provide a platform for the suck-o users and the upcoming tournament, the interface is really great imo...also Linux users can easily join....

sweet... :D I'm already waiting for the first match with you... 8)

as a remark for Linux users: the Jin chess client needs the Java runtime environment, if you don't want to install it just because of the chess client there are many other chess clients like xboard....xboard for example can even be installed through the package manager of most distributions...
