Post by Kirk »

so im looking for some useful linux apps to help further my network hacking. I have so far:
sslstrip
nmap
aircrack-ng suite
ettercap (B_B, I got this to work in command line just fine)

any other apps you guys recommend?

great it works, and it's the best to use text mode anyway...

before you get into external apps, have you got familiar with the on-board networking tools?
- netstat
- iptables

if you are used to netstat on Windows systems you will be surprised how powerful the Linux version is! it is also a must imo to get familiar with the iptables firewall, it teaches you a lot about general networking like the protocols.

for external apps I recommend to have a look at:
- hping3
- netcat
- p0f
- paros

Check out Wireshark (nice GUI for network sniffing) etherape (nice network traffic visualizer) and ronin.

Great list b_b, I was trying to think of another app that I use but you covered just about all of them that I use on a semi-regular basis, add wireshark and scapy and you have plenty of network diagnostic power.
