LFS (Linux from scratch)

Post by computathug »

we all hear about how much it is better to start from the beginning so heres the ebooks to get you on your way. Get yourself an old system and start learning today instead of trying other distro's all the time. Il be starting this sometime later and thought id post some info for any one else who wants to take the plunge.....Good luck

Ah LFS....that brings me memories :)

Great way to learn how a linux system works, how apps interact with each other, how one package might be needed for another one, how to patch a package, how to compile, how to optimize, how to understand the tool chain, highly voodoo configuration :P... great system indeed.

The great thing is that you can build your LFS in an old unused system, on a virtual machine or even inside a running system. I've only used the last one but either way is worthy.

One thing that you should expect though is that it could be very time consuming depending on how you build it, but is lot of fun though.

Hey uid0, welcome to the site and its a pleasure to have you here. Yeah for the exact same reasons is why i am doing this project and also to practice, practice and more practice.

Anyway, hope you like suck-o and will stay around for a while and help contribute to the community. As from your first two posts it does seem your not one of them 1 line posters, and if anything like a few other members on here probably like nothing more than a good old rant now and again. Well i hope this is the place for you do it and enjoy your stay.

Why not post a little introductory about yourself.

Welcome aboard buddy

here's a similar project:

it's not as challenging as LFS because there are many pre-compiled packages available but it's also a good way to learn...
