Hey guys, how you all been
well i recently graduated from high school and was wondering on setting up linux in one of my older pc which i dont use because i have like 2 months of free time before studies start again. I will have alot of time to test new things on linux so What package do you guys suggest that i use and maybe refer me to some books as well. I am interested in learning command line as its fun i think exploring new things ..
i have ubuntu in one of my cds..

well, Linux is mostly learning by doing, so it depends on what you want to do.
here is a nice site that is very useful when working in command line:

Linux is of course predestinated as server system, so I recommend to run services like the Apache web server, ftp, etc...it's a good way to practice and forces you to do a lot without shiny GUIs.
here's a manual to secure a Linux system and services, it's for Debian but there should be only small differences to Ubuntu:
