Sharing to windows

Post by sherlock »

Hey

i just fixed up my old computer and installed debian on itt... but i am finding it hard to share through samba..in my network.

I just want to share some music, movies and pictures over the network.. but it keeps on asking me for a username and password.. i messed around the smb.conf file but no luck..

what do i do to make it just share..to all the computers.

And i want one folder that i can access only.. from my pc..

I know there is many ways to do this.. but the easiest way would be the best lol

hm, running Apache and using the folder you want to share as document root is most likely the easiest way, just make sure to bind Apache to the LAN IP so it can't be accessed from the internet. and if you want to be the only one that can access a subfolder you could simply password-protect it with .htaccess/.htpasswd.

but also feel free to post your samba config on http://code.suck-o.com , maybe we'll find the error...
