configuring a zte ac8710 usb modem

Post by crazywizard »

I can't seem to be able to configure the ZTE ac8710 modem on linux. The modem comes with an autorun software that installs beautifully in windows so linux detects only that partition(i think it's u3). Bt it cant detect the modem. Any help??

driver issue, USB modems are winmodems in most cases (means they are designed for Windows OSs), so it can be a pain in the rear to make them work.
I found drivers for the 8700 model, it includes packages for ubuntu, fedora and suse, but not for the latest versions.....but it's still worth a try:

here's also a howto for Fedora, but should work for other distros too:

yea I have the Pantech USB modem as offered by Verizon Wireless. The software does specifically say its for Windoze only. So many diff solutions, but these threads had some good tips:

Add ZTE AC8710 usb modem device

ZTE AC8710 and Ubuntu 8.10 any chance to get it work together?

BTW I am encouraging everyone to STOP Googling - at least try Bing.com - it HAS brought up articles that google didn't
