how to create a connection in ubuntu

in windows i simply go to my network places view connection > create a new connection i click next then i choose set up my connection manually
i add the user name the passrowd and ISP name etc etc etc
and i get the connection thing to connect from :P

what is the equivalent of that in linux ?

You're using a modem? Which one do you have? If not, what kind of internet connection do you have? What distribution are you using?

wireless connection am connected to my ISP via a router
router on my roof :P wih an antenna :P and cable to my pc lol
no modem...

@ p4 : it didn't work
all what i got is some command error ... :(
i've been given a user name and password from my ISP for my account
and when i created my connection under windows i specified the service type (account type...) and all those info...
can any one get online on WLM and help me with that ?

funny, ubuntu allegedly has the easiest network manager of any linux distro to date... let start from the beginning and work from there. I've never used karmic, so the process may have changed... lemme know

Open System > Administration > Networking.

Select the connection you wish to use, then click Properties.

check the box labeled Enable this connection.

Set up your IP address if static or enable DHCP as per usual

To activate or deactivate network connections, select your connection, then click Activate/Deactivate.

Note, you may have to run this all from root, in Mandriva the sudo command isn't used very much so network configuring happens in root.
