well, it depends on the kernel, so it can work today but when you update to a new kernel version it can happen that it's not working anymore...

here are the needed drivers, but it says kernel version 2.6.32 is needed, and you have 2.6.31:

do you maybe still know what kernel version you had when it worked fine?

I really don't think I've updated the kernel, because the only update I ever ran on the computer was when I first installed 8.10 (which was about a month or so back).
Strangely /boot only mentions kernels 2.6.27-16 and 2.6.27-7. Not 2.6.31 as you mention.

Shabs.

oops, confused that, it wasn't your post...^^

have you ever ran:

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
because your kernel version is pretty old, and updating the system might even fix your problem..

It was just an example.. I'm running ubuntu 9.10, and before that 9.04.. so I've got leftovers... figured it would be better than just making something up! The fact that you have two is proof enough that you've updated at least once ^^

Well, i suggest you do what I explained in the other post. edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and copy the relevant stuff to add a new entry and set 2.6.27-16 to 2.6.27-7. Don't delete anything unless you know what you're doing though.

Isn't making that edit the same as choosing the older kernel in grub to load? Because I've already done that.

Well you said you didn't have the older kernel listed in grub earlier... ^^

Yes it's the same thing

My bad :)
So what now since we've already tried the existing kernels.
