On Social Media and Censorship

Post by Gogeta70 »

I know many of our members are not American, but I'm gonna rant about this shit anyway.

So basically, the moment Donald Trump was no longer the President of the United States, Twitter banned him. Don't take this the wrong way, I think he's a total piece of shit. But, every one of our politicians is a piece of shit, Joe Biden included. If anything, Donald Trump was more honest about who he really is. Regardless, this isn't really about Donald Trump. This is about the fact that when he got banned from Twitter, so many Americans were actually fucking happy about it. And this didn't start with Trump, it's been happening for a while. This is super fucked. If you, as an American citizen, want censorship then move to fucking China.

The American Constitution protects freedom of speech, however this only applies to the government bringing charges against you for what you say. It does not protect you from being penalized by private businesses. This has become a problem recently, as most of our communication is now done over social media. I can understand that some platforms don't want "unsavory" people on them, but I simply cannot stand behind taking away someone's voice because you don't like what they say. It's plain wrong, regardless of whether what is being censored is also wrong. If you don't like what someone has to say, then don't fucking listen - it's that simple. Everyone has the power to choose to listen or not - that should be enough.

This shit is pretty sad to watch. I can only hope that enough people realize how fucking stupid shit is getting and make a stand. [-o< I can't do a damn thing on my own. :(
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

even if I am not from the US I try to inform myself as good as possible about US politics, it has a lot of effect on european politics and the people here.

as you said, it does not matter if you like Trump or not, this is about liberty and democracy: if you believe in freedom you also have to defend the right to express yourself for people with an opinion different than yours, else there is no freedom.

I never liked social media platforms because of the profiling and data sniffing, but since they got so big that they started to influence the public opinion they can only be labeled as pure evil. no idea why many people don't even get a little wary when a billion dollar corporation acts like it's some kind of humanitarian organization "protecting us from evil people and their evil opinions". I am old and intelligent enough to make up my own mind, I don't need schooling from people Marky boy who's life can't be more disconnected from the views and the problems of regular people.

you guys in the US need to have a close eye on what is happening now, we in Europe are further down the road to socialism (and that's what it is) already. the government pays a private company (correctiv-org) to do nothing but raking through social media and deleting content, and if your "offense" was bad enough the party van stops outside. if it keeps going like that the world will be like in Deus Ex or Blade Runner soon, where a handful of corporations and shady organizations like the IMF and the UNO control everything.

BUT you CAN do something. speak with people! you will be surprised how many of them share your opinion, especially ones where you would never have expected it. IRL interaction beats every FB post.
if you want to get even more active: fly under the radar. I am an avid stickerbomber for example:

Damn right! There's an old saying that I haven't heard for a long time now: "I may disagree with what you have to say, but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it".

Yep, pure evil is exactly right. They look at people and all they see is money. They want to collect your personal information and track your activities across the internet to build a more complete profile of you and sell your info the highest bidder. Can't have people upsetting the sheep, can they?

Dude, that is so fucked. 8O Just... damn, wtf...

One thing I find to be an interesting factor here is that the American population is armed to the fucking teeth. The idea behind the right to bear arms is a very important one: It enables the people to have a revolution when the government over-steps its boundaries. With everything that's been happening, I wouldn't be surprised if we're already headed in that direction.

Well, I do talk to friends and coworkers about this type of stuff. Doesn't really feel like that does much though :?

it's not "just" that, those companies became powerful enough to push their own political agenda through lobbyists on their payroll, and through simply making people non-existant if they don't like them. best example is Tommy Robinson, which is one of the bravest and most honorable people on the planet, but just mention his name on FB and you're instantly banned.

as Hitler said, disarming the people is the first step to conquer a nation. now guess why the left is so hot for banning guns. the nazis were on the political left btw, Goebbels said so, and there is even "socialism" in their name...will never understand why people don't get that.
[EDIT]just got this link, thought I share because it kinda fits: https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-threat-of-revolution

better than nothing.
there isn't much you can do at the moment except for taking part in rallies, but the question is if that has an effect and from a certain size one you can always be sure those are infiltrated by feds, agent provocateurs from the left, whoever. stay informed until it's the right time to make bigger plans, not sure what sources you use but here's one of my favorites when it's about US politics: https://www.dailywire.com/ , especially The Ben Shapiro Show is always a good resource for information (plus Ben Shapiro is pretty entertaining): https://soundcloud.com/benshapiroshow
