about getting backtrack to work, open up terminal and put in

/etc/init.d/networking start

will start the network manager and config your ip.

Thanks for the support. I have been watching the videos on BT at offensive-security.com and everything seems to work all the way up the the last bit. I'm not at home right now but when i get home i will post a new thread on the BT issue i am having in greater detail.
