exactly - corporations have been guilty of overinflating damages, or even blaming their own network failures on a hacker.

Note that while there might not be any criminal penalties for 'merely viewing' data on someone's network - they can still sue for civil renumeration - some bullshit over network lag or downtime while they patch their holes you found.

Hacking is almost like the medical field, somethings they can't prove, but they can still bill you for it.
