Well My Grandfather Died. He Was In THe Hospital For Four Months. He Then Became So Weak He Couldn't Lift His Own Hands. He Decied To Just Have Them Pull The Plug. Please Forgive Me If I Seem Depressed And Harsh For a While .

I can feel with you. Lost a lot of loved persons too.

but well, it was surely better that way...he´s in a better world now...

You're a good person (AFAIK )

My grandfather died about 8 years ago.
My uncle (who we were close to) died a few months ago.

I am thinking of you and your family and praying for ya'll.

I deal with people dying everyday at work. I work on a Cardiac unit, and many people are close to death due to problems with their cardiovascular system. It has no age, some patients are in their 20's, some are older - 104 years old. When it is the end-stage of life, you have to understand it is the cycle of life. Also, many of my patients do not wish to live longer via medical technology - your body is still old and broken down, the quality of living is not really there. No one wants to be stuck in bed, unable to control their bowels, some cant feed themselves, and they are in pain.

Patients become intimate with me, they introduce me to their families as if I were their best friend or family member. I am there to keep them alive, to help them do daily things that you all take for granted - even breathing and drinking water. Some patients have lousy families, that don't come see them, some have outlived all their friends.

I am not the bringer of Death, but I am a player. I can not count the number of times I have performed CPR while a CODE team works on a patient. I have looked in to the eyes of the dying, I have quietly begged patients to 'come back'. Sometimes, I am saying "Go on, its time". I have had families come and get me from other parts of the hospital to tell me that my former patient has died. I am an ordinary man, but to them, I am a source of comfort. I am _expected_ to be there for them, it is not really a part of my job, but it is something I am good at I guess.

I do not have a choice. I cannot say "I can't go in to that room!" When patients are DNR status, they will die with no assistance, except some comfort measures. Sometimes the only comfort measure I can give, is just to be there and hold their hand. I do not have a choice, it is who I choose to be. I am the one that will 'bag and tag' you. I may be the last person you will see, so I know I have to be the best person.

I tell the families, that the body (we call'em DBs) in the room is not the person they knew. The person they knew, is free now, the person they knew is to be remembered for how they lived, not how they died. Rejoice, celebrate their lives, and continue with their lives in a manner the person would want them to.

I am a DNR.
