Blind faith or superstition from all over the world

Post by z3r0aCc3Ss »

We here, come from different parts of the world. Superstition is such a thing which is there in every country/community. The only difference is that its forms and ways are different.
Let's put it all down here. I will start with myself first.

Format:

Code: Select all

Country name:
Superstition(s)
*No impersonation/attack/humiliation of any kind is allowed. Just write what you have seen and heard. No explanation on that is required. Just jot it down.

India:
1) If you are walking down the road, and if black cat crosses your path, then it is said that something bad is going to happen to you.
2) If you sneeze while leaving your house, the purpose for what you are leaving will not be completed.
3) If a mirror in your house breaks, something REAL bad is gonna happen in the house.

Cool topic

Canada

1) If you step on a spider it will rain
2) If you break a mirror you will receive 7 years bad luck
3) Crossing a black cats path is bad luck
4) If you hear an owl say your name, death is sure to follow

But I suppose at least 2 of the ones you said are common here as well.

India:

1) If you hear owl's voice, undesirable and dangerous thing's gonna happen.
2) If a dog is moaning in the night, it means somebody is gonna die soon.
3) If you see crow on your house window, it means death of one of the family member is near.

@maboroshi,
Here also, couple of the things above are similar as you said.

There are so many... where to start :D

When I was in Korea they had this belief called Fan Death, where if you leave a fan running in a room with no open windows or doors while you slept, you would die.

More locally, U.S.A.

1. Walking under a ladder brings bad luck... not for any practical reason either :D
2. Bad things happen in series of three, this has been applied to everything from lotto tickets to deaths in the family.
3. Finding a heads up penny while walking will yield good luck if you pick it up. If it's face down you kick it to give the next person a chance.

interesting thread... :D

germany:

1. touching a chimney sweeper (getting your fingers dirty) brings luck, in some parts of the country already to come across one does the job.
2. when having a celebration make sure you don't have 13 guests, because if you do it means one will die soon.
3. finding a knife means bad luck.
4. a horseshoe above the house door brings luck, but only with the open side up. if the open side is down the luck will fall out of it.
5. the fingernails of children up to 1 year should not be cut because else it will become a thief, they should be bitten off (I kinda doubt that one is really practiced often anymore  )

Finding a knife brings bad luck reminds me that if a friend gives you a knife as a gift, you should give them a coin to keep the from cutting the friendship.

India:
If you are walking down the road, and if a bird (crow, pigeon, etc.) shits on you, then it's your lucky day. If it's on your head, then you are extremely lucky.
People actually feel happy when such things happen. :P :D
