Hello all,
For job reasons i will soon need to "screen" a bunch of people before giving them training in IT.
Now,
how would you explain the following terms to laymen and very fresh beginners :
- difference between MS-DOS emulator and Windows
- difference between Outlook and Mail server (Exchange in this case )
- Server / Client ( this one is *very* important )
- a proxy
- a virtual server
- Intra-net / extra-net
- backoffice / frontoffice
- loggin on to a domain ( Windows logon ) and logging on to a server ( Web, HTTP_AUTH, etc..)
Any input is apreciated ; the more suggestions i have, the better i can put these difficult technical stuff in words from diiferent angles and viewpoints
For the ones that need extra details to formulate better responses, you can PM & social engineer me
Thank you at forehand.
Putting up a skill list
To explain a proxy, i'd say something like "Using a proxy is like putting a mask on your 'internet face', they will see someone elses face, and not your own." Maybe i'm just weird though... lol
For a server/client, i think that's simple. Simply say that "A server is a computer that gets requests from people over the internet and sends the proper information. For instance, google.com is a server. You ask for 'google' and the computer that google is on sends you the page. A client is the exact opposite, it asks for information from a server."

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...
