i mean sites with superflashy layouts like the one you linked looks skiddyish or "counter-strike clan"ish to me ;/ ok so i have some exeptions

Its just because you have migrated from that site, you are trying to compare this with that one, for short you're used to that..

Maybe the design is great... but we dont want people coming in by looking at the design only.. we would rather be known for our content than design

well, the site you named as an example is a board-only site, so you can't really compare it anway. I prefer a simple but functional layout....the site you named looks nice BUT it has a lack of content...I mean, remove all stuff that has no use like the calendar block and the ads (the huge ad on the right ruins the whole layout btw), and then see what remains: almost nothing. this is not an offense against the people from mafiacoders, it's just my personal opinion.

but well, the header on our site is already a new one, and in the long run the design will change...but step by step and not by simply uploading a new theme. the site is doing well, and so it's imo a bad idea to do hard changes which confuse/annoy the visitors...
