Web 2.0

Post by Still_Learning »

I was looking threw the job ad's section on a website and found this..

"This is a posting for contracted work. We are wiiling to hire part-time after you have demonstrated that you are the right person for out Web Development & Internet Marketing team.

We are looking for a skilled web designer. We are NOT looking for someone who has great PHP, MYSQL, etc skills.

We need someone whos sole purpose and expertise is designing High-end Web 2.0 style websites"

is PHP and SQL not part of web 2.0? what is considered high end web 2.0 programming? .NET? .ASP?

So how would someone that is good with PHP an SQL not be qualified to do high designer web 2.0 work? isnt it as easy as putting a button of a social bookmark on the page to intergrate in the twitter, digg, or whatever?..

well, the meaning of "web 2.0" is not really standardized.
in context with the site content it means the user can interact with the site....like writing a blog entry, uploading images or videos...the user is embedded into the creation process.

in context with coding it means the use of languages that make dynamic content possible, like PHP and ASP, also multimedia plays a big role (as mentioned above, pics and videos).
for image presentation Javascript is the big winner in web 2.0, "Lightbox" (and its derivates as Thickbox, etc.) is THE way to display images and whole galleries, you find it on a lot of sites nowadays, there are plugins for Wordpress for example that utilize Lightbox. check it out here: http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox/

Flash is also often used, not really much for the site template itself, but for presenting videos or mp3s it's the #1 choice, the most used player on websites is the JW player: http://www.jeroenwijering.com/

so web 2.0 is not all about PHP or SQL, it's about multimedia and interactivity...
