Electronic Police State 2008

An electronic police state is quiet, even unseen. All of its legal actions are supported by abundant evidence. It looks pristine.

An electronic police state is characterized by this:

State use of electronic technologies to record, organize, search and distribute forensic evidence against its citizens.

The two crucial facts about the information gathered under an electronic police state are these:

1. It is criminal evidence, ready for use in a trial.

2. It is gathered universally and silently, and only later organized for use in prosecutions.

In an Electronic Police State, every surveillance camera recording, every email you send, every Internet site you surf, every post you make, every check you write, every credit card swipe, every cell phone ping... are all criminal evidence, and they are held in searchable databases, for a long, long time. Whoever holds this evidence can make you look very, very bad whenever they care enough to do so. You can be prosecuted whenever they feel like it -- the evidence is already in their database.

Perhaps you trust that your ruler will only use his evidence archives to hurt bad people. Will you also trust his successor? Do you also trust all of his subordinates, every government worker and every policeman? And, if some leader behaves badly, will you really stand up to oppose him or her? Would you still do it if he had all the emails you sent when you were depressed? Or if she has records of every porn site you've ever surfed? Or if he knows every phone call you've ever made? Or if she knows everyone you've ever sent money to? Such a person would have all of this and more -- in the form of court-ready evidence -- sitting in a database, waiting to be organized at the touch of a button.

This system hasn't yet reached its full shape, but all of the basics are in place and it is not far from complete in some places. It is too late to prevent this -- it is here. Our purpose in producing this report is to let people know that their liberty is in jeopardy and to help them understand how it is being undermined.

We should really start encrypting every email we send. Even the ones where nothing important is being said. :D
We will either find a way, or make one.

 nice read DNR. I have a real issue with the USA Patrior Act that was enacted after 9/11. While the american people were reeling from the attacks and scared out of their minds of what next, the govt came in with this act to " protect " us. In reality it gives them total and absolute authority to do whatever they want to anyone just based on a suspicion and by any means they deem necessary! There are many cases of peoples lives being destroyed based on unfounded suspicions and the individuals have no recourse for it. The enactment of this has totally negated our individual civil rights as provided in the constitution. Protect the people yes but violate them and strip them of any rights based on an unfounded suspicion no! Electronic policing is just an extension of this - so what next ? There comes a time to take a stand and say enough is enough and put the govt ( local / state / federal) back in its place - serving the people in a democratic way not ruling them with fear of prosecution . Didnt they call that a dictatorship? Or was it the reason the United States had the whole revolution against English rule? If we allow this then whats next?

well, it's the same here in germany, maybe even worse because of our beloved minister of the interior Wolfgang "Dr. Evil" Schäuble. I can tell you, that guy is totally off the track....years ago he was stabbed while holding a speech, since then he sits in the wheelchair, and when he became minister of the interior he took the opportunity to let us feel his hate...

an example: he initiated the development of a trojan that should be sent to "suspects" so the police can "online search" their computers....no joke, it's really an old-school trojan that is attached to an email so you have to click it...priceless... the regular computer users were shocked, the skilled ones rolled on the floor laughing....there were heavy protests, but the development is still in progress.
a little later Dr. Evil tried to act as "friend of the Linux scene" by becoming the chairman of the german "Linux days" (biggest Linux convention here)....too sad the convention became a total disaster because almost all participants didn't show up as sign of protest.

his next big hit is the "great firewall":
he wants to filter the internet content for users like it is done in (any other) totalitarian regimes, but with the "noble intention" of "protecting us from childporn sites". they talk about globalization but are not able to contact an ISP in another country to down such sites? hilarious, I downed at least 5 malicious sites already by simple phonecalls or emails.

that is the madman btw:

It's so pitiful isnt it ? They claim to be keeping up with technology / utilizing the new accepted tools but the very acts they do would put the average citizen in jail under existing laws. Craziness!

I had not heard of the " great firewall" but am appalled! The result of cutting your people off from outside information and controlling what they have access to has been well documented in history so you would think they would avoid even a hint of that style of govt. Globalization will never take place any time soon given the state of the world govts. They are all circling the proverbial wagons becoming ingrown and looking out only for themselves. Unfortunately imo individuals are having to do the same thing in order to protect themselves and families in such uncertain times. This is where the police and govt's get their power - if no one is paying attention closely they little by little inject these seemingly harmless policies and laws. Thus, they build a base on which to stand when people do finally notice what is happening. Then all they have to say is " well we did this and this and said we would be doing this and no one said anything" ! Its the little things that make up the big picture ! Taking a stand is as much a right as a responsibility - a good question for everyone to ask themselves is " If not me then who? " .

I think that I am just going write my emails in word, password protect the document, than put it in an encrypted volume and send it as an attachement. I would like to see any one and try to read that!
