but how to do it to a file.....info is hard to find, seems more people are hot for removing copyright protections than for adding them...

Bad_brain is right, more people are willing to remove copyright information rather than implement it.

But that's not the issue your faced with. DVD's for example generally use multiple methods of copy-protection which are hardware/software mix, and the general user has no interaction with them. CSS(Content Scramble System) is a main factor, its an encryption scheme. An encryption key is placed in a non user readable portion of the disc and the player uses this key to decrypt the encoded data.

This was cracked right after DVD format was released to the general public, and a program was supplied to break it called DeCSS you may have heard of it.

At the moment there are no viable ways to defeat people from pirating anything in a digital format, it's really hard to do, and expensive to implement. Hell people even pirate books.

The thing I noticed with bad_brains reply is that the article seems to only deal with compact discs. The same probably does not apply to DVD/Blueray discs.

I wonder when the corporate bosses are going to understand that adding copyright protection to their products only spoils them. There's no way to stop the spreading anyway.
