A keg for spare change

Post by toast »

Hey guys! Long time no see!
Hope all are doing well.
I was wondering if I could get some ideas- I have a keg sitting here in my house, and I wanted to use it to put spare change in it.
But how do I get the hole on the top big enough?!

What no Deposit on the keg?

The keg is pressurized so be prepared for that.
You'll need to clean it out! Shitty beer residue will eat your coins!
you'll probably want two holes, the small one on top to insert coins, and a big hole on the bottom to empty it.

Send photo.

I did drink it all with a couple guys, so Im not worried. But the thing is that I live in Canada and they have these MASSIVE coins. (A little bigger than a quarter.) So the hole in the top isnt big enough. I was thinking about drilling the sides of the top hole to make it bigger but I dont want it to wear down my tools....

yea I figure its stainless steel or aluminum. You can drill a series of holes in a straight line, and then connect them (file, saw, drill) So the hole can be what ever size.
Not kidding about the cleaning part - beer does nasty stuff to coins

Did you depressurize it by depressing the ball on the top? #-o
Bet that made a mess

What kind of beer?

Have you ever seen what coca cola does to a dirty coin over night :?:

oi u living next to Big-E now huh? :P

any way, if all is well with the keg, there should be no more pressure inside, which means that u can smash the top thing with a drillbit to create a hole.

So finally, I am done with my keg reconstruction.
I would not recommend this to the kiddies out there. It nearly broke my hello kitty tool kit.

My keg- Image

The top part- Image

I drilled some holes to make the metal piece weaker and easier to manipulate- Image

Pulling off the metal piece and what lay inside- Image

Lastly, smoothing down the edges of the hole and giving it a good scrub- Image

P.s. I forgot to mention its a 5Liter keg... lol I left my normal size one in the US

Ou, you just got a wee little bubba keg. It shouldn't be that difficult with a drill to put a hole through it, the metal is not that thick on it.

I am going to assume you are in QC if you are buying those, I am not aware of anywhere else in Canada that sells them aside from the mini-kegs of Heineken.
