BTW this should not come as a suprise. If you watched the early days of google negotiating with China for business, and how China required all other ISP/software vendors to allow china to built in a 'security feature'.
There is no way China would have allowed google to work in china, if google did not comply with china's special internet requirements of snooping.

How far will china go to keep tabs on everyone on the internet? Maybe as far as infecting chipsets made in china with a backdoor firmware. The rumors of a special 'shut down' code for computer hardware is not too outrageous - why wouldn't a chip maker not install and sell a backdoor to the highest bidder? Why is that important? Mil uses COTS hardware that uses chips made ?

Never a good security idea to have someone else make your security devices.

I'm officially making this thread the Google vs. China; China vs. world, thread. To make new ones for every news would be silly because there are a lot circling around these days.
