Well.....if you register at a host and they give you a static IP...then thats most likely another server... or if you registered for a free domain then you would have to specify your IP in the settings at the site you registered at.

the initial process of pointing a domain to an IP can also take a while because the name servers have to update first...can take from 30 minutes to 24 hours...

Well the site already gave me a static IP and just let me enter a free domain to mask the static IP. www.cjb.net I believe...

Which of the links did you click? =/

Code: Select all

I would like CJB.NET to host my web site for free.

I would like to redirect a free domain to another web site.

I would like to point a free domain to my IP using dynamic DNS.

I tried to login, and it gave me a bunch of options to choose from. Then they gave me an update perl script and a few other stuff for Windows platform. Do I need to install the Perl scripts onto my sever? If so, then how would I do that?
thanks.

Ok so i have created a test account and i have taken a good look at it... and when you register you enter your IP address and the domain is pointed to it....it would take about an hour to work... now if you HAVEN'T opened and forwarded port 80 in your router to your server/computer...then it will NOT work. Since when clicking the link (domain name) it would try to connect to your IP on port 80...and if it's closed it would just deny the connection.

As for the scripts i recommend you try the first one first ^^ since it's just an executable file and seems easier to configure

Hmmm... this server configuring is a bitch... xD

How would I foward my port 80?

Also, I dont see an executable file.. Can you send me the link to it?

Thanks.

P.S. If this server ever gets online, i swear i will have a huge credits area with your name written all over it!

[offtopic:] This is for isapiens, quoting posts allows the user to talk and direct who he or she is talking to.

[on topic:] The guide you gave me, I couldnt find any of the things you were talking about. Where exactly would I start under to find those stuff, I remember when I logged in it said Basic Settings, and a whole bunch of other crap..

But I will try again and come back later on.

(if you are having problems with a step then tell)

1: Goto http://192.168.0.1 (sometimes it's 192.168.1.1)

2: Type in "Admin" and "password" (without the quotes), if you don't have the password the it's either another standard one or someone changed it.

3: When inside the router settings press "Services" in the menu

4: press "add a custom service"

5: name the service whatever you want...

6: set the type to TCP

7: set the start/finish port to 80

8: click "Apply"

9: Goto "Firewall rules" in the menu

10: click "add" under inbound services

11: Choose your new service that you added.

12: Choose "Allow always"

13: Type in your LAN IP address in the boxes (you can find your LAN IP in start -> run -> CMD -> ipconfig)

14: Then click "Apply", when outside in the firewall list again, make sure that your new rule is "checked" in the little box next to it.

15: Logout and you are done =)

If you want it to be easier then this then tell and i will make a movie about it....starring Eddie Izzard and Arnold Schwarzeneger
