Watching URLs
Hey guys,
I'm looking for a tool to watch for expiring URLs. The problem is, I want to buy some URLs already registered. They are not in use and nowhere on sale. Now I hope that they might expire one day and I could buy them.
Checking manually is pretty annyoing. I'm sure there must be some usefull programms to do the work for me.
Any suggestions?

well, if you want a stand-alone application for a windows system it seems to hard to find a free one, but this shareware trial version would most likely be good enough: http://www.expireddomainsleuth.com/freetrial.asp
the limitation is that you can only monitor 10 domains at once they say.
the free ones are mostly web interfaces, this one seems to be ok:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/domainhunter/

sandbagging URLs
So I am clear, you want to buy domain names and hold them for ransom?
As far as expireddomainsleuth.com's idea of buying failing domains to hijack traffic for pay-for-click-points (.03 cents) :
"
Now…the math!
How does it add up? Say you find a website that has just a few clicks a day….that’s not that difficult if you find a site that is listed in even ONE of the directories.
Now you go and point that site to a pay per click site where you earn a few cents per click. Now repeat this and get another 100 sites using our unique search tools.
$0.03 perclick x 5 clicks/days 100 sites x 365 days per year = $5475
Your cost was 100 site registrations @ $9 per site = $900 to $4575 PROFIT
"
Sounds too easy..to be true?
When you talk about checking for expired URLs, you mean checking the whois database? :
Domain Name: HIGHTIMES.COM
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com
Name Server: NS1.WORLDNIC.COM
Name Server: NS2.WORLDNIC.COM
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Updated Date: 27-jun-2006
Creation Date: 03-may-1995
Expiration Date: 04-may-2013
The expired domain tool looks pretty cool, I am checking it out myself..
I typed in rotton.com and got a list of sites, from boners.com to sportsdignity.com.
I selected sportsdignity.com to thread, the software sent me to dotser.com to 'register the domain'
" Search Results
Check boxes to add domains to your cart.
add domain status
sportsdignity.com Make Offer
sportsdignity.net Make Offer
"
When I selected 'make offer' it sent me to another website, sedo.com
apparently brokers for domains..
"sportsdignity.com
Status: Domain is already registered.
Your options: Registered domains can sometimes be purchased from the existing owner. A Sedo broker can anonymously negotiate an acquisition on your behalf
"
What ever.
The software is maybe helpful because it gives you links to the websites that you could actually just type in yourself like whois.org, dotser/anyother domain registrar.com, pool.com, etc
there was another program to track urls, it would check to see if their servers were still alive.
eitherway, there has to be a better way to make money than paying brokers, buying domains, and praying for $.03 to cover your costs.
Maybe you'd be better off picking up empty cans on the freeway, thats at least $.10 a pop with no cost

Alright here is my program just let me know if you get any errors. If you get an error it is because i did not package it yet.
I can add stuff to it like time of day search and how many times a day, run at boot up and things like this.
Oh only runs on windows. Please tell me if it is useful..

Richtx32.ocx is just an object i am using to list the information once recieved. Sort of like notepad or a textbox. Youll need to download it and put it where B_B stated.sternbildchen wrote:Error: Component 'Richtx32.ocx' or one of its depencieds not correctly registered: a file is missing or invaild.
Yes i knew there was a possibility that an error would happen. I also noted that i need to make a slight change to the "who is" section. Ill have the new version up today.
Thanks B_B for helping him out. I guess i could make the program a full install to eliminate the errors, but this is still being designed and not yet complete. Ill toss around the idea today.
