FTP ERROR users can not retreive directory listings

Just as the subject states, I have an ftp server running and no user can retrieve the listings, the listings right is enabled, the user can connect but they get disconnected when it tries to retrieve the listing. Ive tired multiple servers; xerver, filezilla, as well as bullet proof ftp. Any ideas guys?

have you given the right permissions to the directories?

try with chmoding the directory in question

use active mode in the ftp client settings, in some clients it's also called port mode.
also make sure the firewall is not blocking port 20 of the server, ftp needs 2 ports when using active mode (active mode is default on most servers).

and yes, check the permissions, also make sure owner/group is set right...
