File Streaming

Post by Frester »

Hey! I've been searching for days on google for all information on live video or audio streaming. I've gotten interested in internet tv and radio and I was just wondering if anyone knows any is there is any 'File streaming for dummies' tutorial that they trust there? Or if anyway is up for the challenge of making a step by step one themselves? Hm? :D

What I need to know about is the best programs, the creating of a sever, etc. or the best ye can do really! The programs would be most useful if they are free or if a keygen is available for them?

Any help would be appreciated anyway! Email me if you want aswel!

http://www.streamingmedia.com/ is a good way to get started, it covers current technologies and tactics to stream media.

You are talking about dedicated servers that are built just to perform real-time streaming of video/audio data. The servers are built to deliver the data in a smooth consistent stream, perhaps via UDP (user datagram protocol) or a sort of propriety code scheme. You might 'spec' your own media player. It is unlike regular http transaction on a plain old web-host/server. On the server-side, its a 'multicast' type delivery vs unicast delivery.

Not sure on license fees/open source multicast server Operating system/applications. I imagine if you try to run this off your local ISP connection - the ISP will shut you down. So consider a Multicast Web-host?

you can check the Darwin Streaming Server, if you use an up to date Linux distro it should work out of the box and is easy to set up....but on older distros it can be a pain in the rear:
