Speed Up Firefox

Post by knightm4r3 »

Here is a little tutorial on how to speed up FireFox, most of you guys probably already know this but Im sure some people don't.

1.Type "about:config" into the url bar and hit enter.

2. Do a search (in about:config) for the following:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Okay, now, normally the browser will make one request to connect to a web page at a time, if you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which speeds up loading times.

3.Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. (I heard themax that fireFox will make is 7, but if you make it 30, It will just max out assuming it is 7, mo big deal, either way, its faster)

4. Lastly, right click anywhere inside the about:config screen and select New>Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

Anyway, hope this helpes some of you!

well, not all servers support multiple request from the same source at the same time...and this is what pipelining do, so it can lead to problems.
if you have a fast connection the "Fasterfox" plugin is also worth a try....

there is an extension for firefox called fasterfox (lame name if u ask me) that does this more efficiently and it prefetches commonly viewed pages, its a lot safer to do this in my opinion than to do it manually

Thanks! I was not even aware of fastefox until now.

By the way is it possible to change the font of the words like "bookmarks, view, tools, help,...?" I kind of get lost from all the options there available.
