FOR N00BS

Please, please, pretty please:

Ask your questions, by all means BUT !
at least try and Google your keywords first! You can find a few tricks related to what you are looking for. You can get the "confusing" terms defined for you.
Then, when you have a general idea of "tricks" you would like to learn more about, clarification requests etc, you can post it without the risk of not being taken seriously.

Some nifty Google terms could be "exploits", "hacking tools" (add what you want to do to it, like "server exploits", or "hacking tools buffers" or whatever).

Read the articles, then post your questions!!!!!

Most people here have no problem sharing their knowledge. But please, don't expect this knowledge (which they have worked long and hard for I don't doubt) to be handed over if you haven't done any *basic* searching on your own.

For example, if I had an error message I didn't understand, I would Google the message to find out more about it. If I didn't understand what (for example) a dll was, I would Google that, too. Then, if I didn't understand the solution or I wanted to be sure before I tried to fix it, I would post the error message, what I was doing at the time I got it, what I thought the problem was, how to fix it and ask if this was correct. I wouldn't just pop in, post the error message and say "How do I fix this and what does it mean?"

Ok, I'm sorry if I have offended anyone b/c it wasn't my intention. This post isn't directed at anyone in particular, either. This site is a great place to learn with a lot of nice people who are willing to offer advice.
If you ask the right question, you'll get the right answer.

I like copernic agent and I try to collect links to other search engines:

example:
http://www.searchenginecolossus.com

The basic premise behind hacking is the urge to LEARN how to do things.
Homework is a requirement for any study.

***ALSO FOR NEWBS***

Please, use proper grammer and spelling. I understand if English isn't your primary language..so some may not have "perfect grammar"...

But, in truth...alot of times, it's not because of a language barrier..it's just because of careless typing.

A REALLY newbish/noobish question, typed with proper grammer and spelling won't have me wanting to flame as much as one with terrible spelling and grammar...as well as excesive "chat speak", or "l337".

My point is...type well, and your chances of getting flamed are lessened.
Also, you will come off as much more intelligent by using good spelling and grammar.

Anyways, yeah, i agree with everything said here. If you have a question, don't be afraid to ask it, but do your research. Don't expect to have the answer just handed to you, because hacking is teaching yourself, not being taught by someone else. We're all here to give a helping hand to eachother.

That's my 2 cents.

Basic appz you should have to begin:

>Antivirus software, one that updates often. Antivir is one.
>Copernic Search Agent, just a little more than google..
>Firewall, Zonelabs.com is one.
>A registry cleaner, you'll be trying out many appz you'll find online, and you'll delete many of them too. CCleaner is one.
>Back-up registry and installation disk to reinstall your OS
>Encryption app to lock up your data, a wiper to clean your box. Kremlin is nice, not the international version either.

Advanced Appz, as your skillz increase..

>Packet Sniffer, Ethereal is real nice, I miss Iris by eeye though..
>Sam Spade
>cookiedigger
>IP tools
>Vuln scanners, various for various ports, OS Cainable, wwwhack, are two.
>Disassemblers, Viewers, coders. Get visual C+, search for softice.

Anyone want to add?

-superscan4
-Ethereal (I agree with DNR, imo it´s the best packet sniffer)
-XAMPP (nice for quick site tests on my windows box)
-TextPad (really nice&lightweight text editor with syntax highlighting for many languages)

Hmm Finger is usually disabled on most networks. I searched and found a few college networks that allow Finger to be used.

And because of Finger's limited availability, I could not find any software on it, except webbased, which sucked:
