Hackers can watch your house in real time?

Post by jasonxxx102 »

I was told today that Obama got rib of Bush's Obscenity Prosecution Task Force, to be replaced by something. I was wondering what replaced it? I also heard there is software that is somewhere in the underground where a hacker can watch your house in real time, they can zoom in, record anything. I was wondering if anybody had heard of this.

you are likely referring to WarViewing - akin to wardriving for wifi access, you wardrive for webcameras. Just like residental/commercial wifi that can be found unsecured, you can find the wifi webcamera transmitting or even its web interface console - there you can zoom, pan, and select views.

Google Earth has old pictures, the satellite view of my property is about 4-5 yrs old.

I don't think this can be done with software alone....the only way would be to hijack a military spy satellite, and I guess people would notice it when one of their billion dollar satellites leaves the default orbit....

but yes, as DNR said, in the times of "video babyphones" and CCTV wardriving is not just about using other peoples wifi anymore...

btw when they talk about satellites - they talk about "windows". Since satellites move to the earths rotation, they don't 'stay on station' like a circling UAV. The window is the time frame that a satellite will be over the target, and it could be in minutes.

Thats why they came out with UAVs, to loiter a camera (or missle) over a target area to wait for the right time.

Satellite hacking can be done - but as bb says - satellites are monitored in real time , chances are a sysadmin will see your attempts.

nope p4inl0v3r, because for this governments can take the easy way and use the phone provider's infrastructure...and when calling your neighbor the call surely isn't relayed over a satellite...

but ok, such spy satellites can surely scan specific frequencies for transmissions of any kind IF other satellites are used to relay them....but spying for (military) radiotraffic can't be done that way simply because it works different. when I was in the army I worked on different transmission stations (tanks and trucks), so I know that short-range radio waves kinda creep over the sureface while long-range traffic is relayed through stations on the ground, the earth's atmosphere is used as mirror then (just like playing Snooker)...

just like there are servers for ISPs and webhost for certain protocols (http, FTP, etc) there are satellites for certain purposes and under different ownership.

Some satellites are actually available like a BBS/Host for hobby satellite hackers to send and recieve files. The clubs are just like hamradio and forums like this.

not sure if they are disbanned -

But its typical to just rename departments - they still exist, but different name. Typical political manuever..

there has been a news report over the past few days that the british goverment target 1500 people a day and watch there every move, from listening in on there phone calls, recording there msn convos, looking at what websites they have been on and even following them on cctv for days on end for no apparent reason.

shocking really how there is so much crime in the uk and the goverment have that power to watch everymove and do nothing lol.

and also a few months ago a mobile phone company were fined about a billion pounds for recording peoples phone calls for no reason. makes me wonder why hacking is illigal when the govement and big ass companys are the worst for it.

Something like that happened here as well a few months back, T-com, owned by a German company (I think?), was recording some of their employees' conversations. I'm pretty sure they all do it, but not as many companies and/or governments get caught. And I think there was a scandal involving politicians being spied as well...

Poor jasonxxx102, he never got an answer to his original question.
I've never heard of it, but it doesn't really seem possible to me. Unless the government hires someone to spy for them and gives them a satellite...
Go on, panic now. :D

yep, t-com is a german company (still the biggest phone company here, it was a monopol and owned by the state earlier), they spied on the employees' phonecalls and also on calls of labor union leaders. the t-com is also famous for "losing" customer data that appears on CDs on the black market, happened repeatedly already.
