I used Comodo for a while, it's definitely better than Zone Alarm.

I wouldn't say its a totally secure firewall but what i will say is you have more control over your settings than other free firewalls.

There are also a lot more options with comodo than any of the other free one's.

Zone alarm started doing two things -
1. It does things in the background without asking you if thats what you need.
2. It quotes some stupid, guessimate, alarmist stuff like "This could be an attack on your computer.."

Rules for a firewall
1. Don't do anything unless I told you or you asked me
2. Let me figure out what it is, just tell me the facts you really know.

I installed several times zonealarm including on my sisters laptop. One day the internet connection stopped working and I had no idea why. We were on vacation and for ten days we could not use the internet which really sucked. I realized only much later that the only way to fix the problem is to uninsall zonealarm. Since than I use blackice.
We will either find a way, or make one.

wow I started out with blackice a loooong time ago. It worked, but back then 10+yrs ago, it was clunky, had lots of configurations to do.

Bad news:
30-Day Notice (on ISS's stie)
As previously announced, IBM Internet Security Systems will discontinue support for BlackICE PC Protection and BlackICE Server Protection on September 29, 2008.
