bitcoin mining?

Post by bad_brain »

anyone experience with bitcoin mining already? I'm thinking about getting into it, just for fun...and hopefully profit.... 8)
I like the idea of 100% anonymous online payments, because that's the point where either your privacy is compromised or you have to go for shady deals prone to be rip-offs. everything else can be done anonymous already, but it's worth nothing when the last step is Paypal, right? :lol:

you're welcome...just make sure to best download the block files instead of letting them update through the client when running it the first time...else it takes loooooong. I am still waiting, takes 3-4 days already...luckily only 3000 blocks (from 200,000+) left now... [-o<

alrighty, finally all blocks downloaded...and started with mining too. make sure to get and up to date mining client with Stratum support, like the latest GUIminer version:
https://github.com/downloads/Kiv/poclbm ... 121203.exe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

once you are mining let me know your hash rate...mine is about 65 Mhash/s... :D

i update the gui miner to latest version and clocked my gpu a little bit :D
and atm my hash rate is around 77.3 Mhash/s, i will expermient some more with the flags and clocking my cpu and gpu´s some more and hopefully i will come up to around 100 Mhash/s

otherwise i will be ordering a few 5850´s pretty soon x)

and btw make sure to alter the priority of guiminer and your gpu driver to "obove normal" or "high" in the task manager

I am very interested in this.

Downloaded the Bit Coin Client, The blocks seem to be downloading at a reasonable rate, are you guys using a pool?

Or going solo? I have been reading solo doesn't make as much, but those articles seemed kind of old.

*cheers

@cwdykarn
I haven't tweaked my GPU settings yet, and it seems the Mhash/s rate changes also with the amount of shares....on the pool site mine went up to more than 240 Mhash/s there already....I'm running a 4850 btw.

@mab
I am using the mining.bitcoin.cz pool. hopefully the download will keeps for you that way, mine went REALLY slow at the last about 30,000....took 3 times longer than the 180,000 before. :lol:

@ph0
it's fun...and makes a use of your system when it's idling.. :D
the good thing is: it doesn't occupy your system too much, so you can still work as usual with it while mining in the background....the only thing that might not work that well anymore is gaming at the same time because the GPU load caused by the mining would surely decrease your frame rate remarkable.

@cwdykarn
more than 120....damn mab is running a SLI system... [-(

Yeah but what is the purpose of that? On their website they describe some blocks and how mining can be stressful to your system but not what the hell it is :?

Actually my system isn't SLI LOL

I had an ATI 5850 HD and an ATI 6850 HD (which are not compatible together as SLI) I have since taken out the 5850 cause I don't trust the heat from both cards. My Mhash clocks at 140, but honestly I think something must be glitched cause the fan kicks in heavy when I run it and my framerate even in windows apps like Libreoffice become hard to work with.

Advice?

*cheers

Mabo :-)
