Bitcoin Mining Set up Tutorial

Bitcoin Mining Set up Tutorial

What is Bitcoin Mining by bad_brain
The Bitcoin payment/currency system is running as P2P, and every transaction made is hashed in a "block", those hashes have to be verified before they are distributed in the network (which is the actual payment process then). and to do that it needs system resources, which is done in the background of every client (like uploading on torrents).
when mining you simply share your system resources actively and in a more extensive way.

solving a block is rewarded with 25 Bitcoins IF you are actively doing it, as regular client process you get nothing....and that's what mining is about: actively solving the blocks and sharing the gain.
Is Bitcoin mining resource intensive by bad_brain
Of course it leads to some system load, but not in a way that endangers the system...I am mining while writing this, listening to music and checking emails, etc...all working without lag.
This tutorial will give instructions on how to set up your system for bitcoin mining on Windows PC.

Step 1:

First thing is first go to http://bitcoin.org/ and download the latest Bitcoin QT Client for windows. After that run the client and let it download the required Blocks (quite a few so may take a while). Also while you are in the client look at the Receive coins tab, in the Address field copy this hash tag.

Step 2:

Go to this address https://mining.bitcoin.cz/ and register a new account.

Once your account is registered a generated Worker username and Password will be given. You should copy these for step 3.

In your account settings, paste your bitcoin address (the one we previously copied over from step 1)

Step 3:

Download the GUI Miner from https://github.com/downloads/Kiv/poclbm ... 121203.exe. Now we will set it up. Note it is ok to run gui miner while the blocks are downloading.

In the default tab for GUI Miner

Enter these values:

Code: Select all

Server: <Select> Other
Host: <Enter> api.bitcoin.cz
Port: <Default> Should be 8332
Username: <The generated worker username>
Password: <The generated worker password>
Device <Select> Your GPU or CPU (slower)
CPU Affinity: <Only valid for using the CPU>
Step 4 (Extras):

Ok that's the general idea start mining, some extra things you can do are below

Windows auto start and auto mine.

Create a Short cut of the Gui Miner executable. Drag this shortcut in to Start > All Programs > Start Up. Now Open up Gui Miner and select the View Menu and choose Show summary then check the Autostart checkbox.

Create a backup of your bitcoin Wallet. By choosing File > Backup Wallet in the Bitcoin QT Program.

Step 5 (Notes):
  • You do not need to run the Bitcoin QT Program while the miner is running.
    You can run the Miner While Bitcoin is downloading the blocks.
    If the Blockchain is really slow to download you can find them here as well http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitcoin ... lockchain/
    It is recommended to use your GPU for better/faster bit coin mining
    Restoring your backed up Wallet file is as simple as copying it over to C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin
That's about it

Thanks to bad_brain for the information he provided. This tutorial was made possible because of him. Thanks to cwdykarn as well.

good one mab! :D

I am adding some useful links:

one of the main questions for a beginner might be "how can I get bitcoins?", mining alone is of course no option if you want to make a bitcoin payment NOW because you want to afford something anonymous....it simply takes too long to mine bigger amounts.
usually you simply offer a service yourself and get payed by bitcoins, if you can't do that then you can also simply buy bitcoins:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Buying_bitcoins" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://bcchanger.com/bitcoin-sell-orders" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
even if the buying process is of course not anonymous it doesn't affect the anonymity of your payment later because the bitcoins you bought can not be traced.

a good privacy combo is bitcoins and vpn imo, because when affording a vpn there is usually also the "pay for it" privacy flaw, so you have to trust the provider REALLY not to store or give away that info to authorities.
here are vpn providers that accept bitcoins:
http://www.bestvpnservice.com/blog/vpn- ... -bitcoins/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Mullvad might be a good choice:
https://mullvad.net/en/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
