works with any VoIP client, also with Skype. free calls are only possible from VoIP to VoIP, calls to landline or mobile always cost money...and there is no way to evade it (afaik). you can check the different providers and sign up to all which offer free minutes at the start, and once the free minutes are gone simply use the next one...but this is pretty stressy I guess.

I have made a call from germany to belgium once via Skype, and there was a pretty annoying lag, so don't expect high quality.
the charges are pretty cheap, but when you get prepaid calling cards it is even cheaper and you can use your regular landline then, so best go to the next calling card shop and let them counsel you....
