Router and MAC addrese

Post by l0ngb1t »

i know that router work depending on IP tables
but i have some question and it may sound silly
can we configure a router to drop connections according to the source MAC address and not the IP.
and the second question is: can i configure my router so it won't allow anyone to connect to it but me and that according to my MAC address?

Yes. I assume you mean wireless internet, as people won't just walk up to your router and plug in their computers

In your router settings ( http://192.168.1.1/ ) look for "Wireless MAC Address Filtering" or something along those lines.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

can we say that router work as a NAT
does a router translate addresses???
if we can use the router as a NAT does it need any special configuration like editing the routing tabl
