View IP,MAC address and Hostname on wifi

Post by Raz0r »

Hello every one,I am not sure if this has been posted somewhere else on the forums and I do apologise if it is #-o but this is one of the ways that I use to view the amount of users using wifi, their mac addresses and their IP.
If there are any errors please point them out,I am only human , not machine.

Steps:

1)If you have firefox (duh) download and install the addon worldIP

2)Find a wifi spot (how you access the internet is aother story)

3)Open up firefox and look on the bottom right hand corner and you would see the IP of the WLAN.

4)Type the IP in the browser

5)You would most likely hit a dialog box asking for username and pass

6)In my experiance the user is almost always "admin" and the pass "admin" if not try administrator as username and password as the password.

7)If that dosen't work well........(I really don't know ,perhaps google common usernames and passwords?

8)You would see a menu, click on device info, and you should see a sub menu, then click on dhcp

9)You would then see the hostname.the IP and the mac address of the users connected.

Hope this was informative see ya.
Any constructive critizism is welcome.

Well if you can get that far you might as well do some friendly sniffing on the network as well. For educational purposes of course

Without script.

You found the default wifi admin page. you don't need a script to do that.
Many wifi routers have default IP of 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.0.1, etc.

While sniffing the wifi signal - many times the brand of wifi router is broadcast -
You can google for the default IP and password -
http://www.default-password.info/netgear/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If the wifi admin was halfway smart - they might select not to have the brand of wifi broadcast - no big deal, just check either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.

THIS ONLY WORKS when you are attached to the wifi network. 192.169.0.1 will be DROPPED by internet gateways. That is not a public domain routable IP.

IPs can also reflect Cisco IP config - 10.10.1.1 etc.

If the admin created the network, IP range - usually network devices are parked at the END of the IP spectrum - ie - 200.222.34.1 or 200.222.34.254, etc. Servers, printers, are also parked at the end of the IP spectrums.

The Wifi Admin page is very important - here you can set another computer to route all the traffic of the private network - and sniff it. You can also set notification of users logging in, change DNS to your rigged DNS, and update the firmware with really undetectable access.

It is not just the residental and small shops that have left default webadmin pages and logins. Korea's Paxcomm did this on their country's gateway for years...

Once you know this - you don't need script.

That will explain about discovery - on the wifi network..
