[Quick Tip] Dodging some shutdowns

Post by p99 »

Ever come across one of these on a windows machine?

It an incredibly simple thing to get out off. Whether you are messing with processes or your being bombarded by other forces.

START >> Run >> cmd

In Command prompt type: shutdown -a

The shutdown will be aborted. Quite a simple fix, but really a stress reliever when you've learned this.

You have plenty of time to do this in 60 seconds so don't rush. You'll waste more time messing up then typing correctly.

Despite killzone's opinion, i believe that this is useful information as i have used it a few times when windows update tried to restart my computer... amongst other things.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

Exactly. It was just a spur the moment tutorial I made. Or if your ending proccesses and that window pops up.

I'm messing with xp right now and just deleting shit I think I don't need. Trying to free my 20 gig hardrive up from useless junk windows has.

Like the alert pop-up sound, bubble sound for the sytems tray, minimize and maximize "swoosh" noises, random video-game music in the same folder(wtf?). Those are all history.

I may or may not start documenting exactly what and where I delete things and if I had any bad effects from it.

Maybe we could start some kind of live sticky where the mods would delete all "non-informational" posts.
