i posted a topic not to long ago about not being able to use certain DOS commands well now i cannot use any i.e. ping, netBIOS, Netstat, shutdown, telnet ect. i tried useing system mech. as suggested but no luck any idea what could fix this...?

im running XP

edit some commands will run when i cd to c:\windows\system32

Sounds like a virus.
Have you scanned ur compy lately?

Tep I Will Be Glad To Try And Help You Fix Your Problem. :wink: Now As You Have Posted Your Using Windows XP. To Help Me Help You Tep Are You Using XP Home Edition Or XP Professional Edition. Another Thing That Will Help Me Is Do You Have Service Pack 1 Or 2? What Commands Will Run When You You cd To c:\windows\system32? I Hope When We Can Fix Your Problem swiftly Tep. Also Try Scanning Your Computer For Spyware And Viruses Good Luck. :twisted: :evil:

yes i have zone secruity it scans every day not a virus

and i'd say XP home since its my home comp. and im guessing only the commands that are contained in sys32 like netsh, shutdown, ping, xcopy, netstat ect.

hm, have you checked the PATH environment variables? when you're able to start the apps directly from the inside of system32 folder but not as command it points to a missing or wrong PATH variable.

type in command line:

Code: Select all

set Path
and check if the path to system32 is set there.

if not:
1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Click Environment variables.
4. Click on Path > edit
5. Add C:\WINDOWS\system32 (don't forget ; )
